PRO Session (DataWeek): Generative AI Operation Evaluation Framework
Thursday September 4, 2025 10:00am - 10:25am PDT
Cigil Achenkunju, LivePerson, Data and Product Management

How do we know if this gen AI investment is moving the needle? It is a question heard almost daily across finance, healthcare, and retail. And honestly, it is the right question to ask. On top of that, should we continue to invest in AI at the same rate or optimize? How can a stakeholder show that solution usage has a positive or maybe negative impact on their operation?
Survey results indicate that up to 85% of AI initiatives eventually fail to deliver their promises. Organizations using gen AI want to understand the impact of such solutions clearly. Can you blame them? So, let’s define a strategic decision-making framework that broadly answers these business questions in an operational setting that balances the benefits of business value and AI integration.

An analytical framework for operations measurement 2S/2E: Think of it as four pillars used together to tell a complete story of your gen AI-enabled operation's health: Each pillar reveals a different facet of your performance, and I'll show you exactly how to measure them. These pillars offer valuable insights to measure your operations. What makes this framework powerful is its systematic approach and adaptability.

PRO Session (API): "Network Observability" Overlooked, Underappreciated, more important than ever
Thursday September 4, 2025 1:30pm - 1:55pm PDT
Leon Adato, Catchpoint, Developer Relations Advocate

Remember the network? Long before "infrastructure as code", container orchestration, cluster management, or death by 1,000 clicks in some labyrinthine cloud configuration console, the network was an essential layer (or 3) of IT operations.

This may cause some to call for their fainting couch, but I never the less must inform you that the network never went away, became irrelevant, or was simplified to the point where it didn't matter.

The network - good old route and switch, packets and bits (and more importantly flow) networking - is alive and kicking and more important than ever to those of us who care about the performance and availability of our applications.

More to the point, not only is the network the metaphorical plumbing through which all your precious non-metaphorical observability and monitoring data flows; it holds secrets you'll never find in the traces, events, metrics, and logs of typical application observability solutions.

In this talk I'll reveal the observability secrets hiding in plain sight within your network; suggest ways to access that information; and highlight the insights and value you're missing if that data remains invisible, unused, or ignored.

Casey Morton, Pinnacle Solutions Group, Principal Consultant

In the early days of my career, a mentor once said to me "Everything is a product". He went on to say, "Its less about selling your software and more about creating well-defined (and documented), composable modules or Lego bricks..." This is a lesson that I keep close to my heart over 20 years later. In this session, we'll talk about how this mantra can apply to nearly everyone in IT and then we'll look at it, specifically as it applies to DevOps. What does it mean to "productize" something? Why does it matter? Why should I design for reuse even if I probably never will?We will talk through a couple of examples to better illustrate how to apply this to your daily work. Maybe its your CI/CD pipeline. Maybe its Terraform or Bicep scripts. Maybe its Helm Charts. Let's take a look at these very different scenarios and see how Productized DevOps can make your life easier and help make you more successful.

OpenAPI Summit: AI‑Powered APIs and API‑Enabled AI: A Symbiotic Evolution Driving Mutual Innovation
Thursday September 4, 2025 2:30pm - 2:55pm PDT
Neelesh Pateriya, Cisco, Principal Engineer

APIs and AI are no longer separate domains—they’re co‑evolving in a symbiotic relationship that accelerates innovation on both sides. This session uncovers how AI enhances API design, documentation, and developer workflows, while APIs extend AI’s reach into real‑world data, actions, and operational systems.

AI‑Powered APIs:
Developers face rising complexity in discovering, understanding, and implementing APIs. AI can transform this experience by powering intent‑based search and summarization in API documentation, suggesting improvements to OpenAPI schemas (from descriptions and examples to issue detection and guideline‑compliant fixes), and generating production‑ready integration code via natural language prompts in environments like VSCode Copilot.

API‑Enabled AI:
AI systems often struggle to access live, domain‑specific data or act autonomously beyond static model outputs. By exposing data and services through APIs—standardized and secured via protocols like MCP—AI can tap into real‑time sources, enrich its context, and execute complex, multi‑step workflows. MCP‑powered platforms (e.g., Cursor, VSCode Copilot) are already demonstrating how AI agents can both recommend and perform tasks seamlessly.

PRO Session (API): Supporting AI-First MCP in an API-First World.
Thursday September 4, 2025 2:30pm - 2:55pm PDT
Amey Desai, Nexla, Head of Artificial Intelligence

At Nexla, we recently implemented native support for Model Context Protocol (MCP) as part of our agentic AI framework. This included exposing Data Products as an MCP Server, orchestration across MCP servers and LLMs, and mixing MCP with non-MCP (re)sources and tools. While Nexla is used to build agentic systems, it’s been used a lot longer as an iPaaS to create, integrate, and proxy APIs – and for data integration.

Join us as we walk through our lessons learned and biggest challenges in using AI-First MCP, and mixing it with a non-MCP, API-First world. Topics include:
Current strengths and weaknesses of MCP vs other standards
Nexla’s MCP server architecture, and how it supports different APIs and other sources
AI-driven orchestration of MCP and non-MCP sources
How to manage security with MCP, one of the biggest challenges with MCP today

We'll share practical examples of this architecture in action, covering implementation patterns, agent coordination strategies, and a leave behind or follow along developer kit for the developers in the audience.

OpenAPI Summit: API Governance: The Latest Trends Is Making Teams Love Standardization
Thursday September 4, 2025 3:00pm - 3:25pm PDT
Jeremy Glassenberg, Salesforce, Product Leader, APIs

API governance has been a topic for many years, especially the last 5, as more companies expand and see the need for it. We've also trended away from "enforcement by force", with successful API governance stories consistently achieved by "enforcement with love" - making API development easier for your teams, to get them to want to support API governance. Now, standardization is easier than ever, with shared tactics and tools getting more formalized. Here, we'll go through the latest methods that worked for many enterprises, and a winning product stack that makes API development smoother for everyone.

OPEN Session (CloudX): Hack the Cloud: Attackers Love Blind Spots, Break Their Hearts
Thursday September 4, 2025 3:30pm - 3:55pm PDT
Brian Contos, Mitiga, Field CISO

Malicious actors, on an unholy crusade, have discovered that a lack of visibility across Cloud, SaaS, and Identity, combined with legacy controls that provide limited cloud detection and response capabilities, grants them a nefarious advantage. This lack of visibility, detection, and response in cloud environments allows malicious actors to operate with an elevated ability to breach organizations, evade detection, and maintain persistence.

As businesses transition to the cloud, critical assets, sensitive data, and an increasing array of interconnected SaaS applications have followed. This shift attracts malicious actors eager to exploit any visibility gaps, such as those caused by the segmentation of environments across workloads and SaaS. While such segmentation is a beneficial security best practice for incident prevention, it also provides a stealthy refuge for attackers. In essence, your SecOps team is operating within a landscape fraught with invisible threats.

This presentation will explore real-life stories from the trenches, drawn from years of cloud-based incident response. Various hacks will be explored to illustrate how breaches occur, what happens following a breach, and why organizations are struggling to detect and respond.

Finally, we will cover mitigation strategies such as proactively preparing for a breach, discovering malicious activity, and responding. Malicious actors are counting on your passivity, your blind spots, and your inability to effectively detect and respond to attacks in the cloud. Break their hearts!

OPEN Session (DataWeek): Balancing Velocity with Academic Rigor When Building with LLMs
Thursday September 4, 2025 3:30pm - 3:55pm PDT
Lauren Peate, Multitudes, CEO & founder

We’re all building AI features now. But building with LLMs brings its own challenges – namely: How can we use cutting-edge practices, weave in AI ethics, and consider the cost of different models without blowing past delivery dates. Not to mention making sure that the features we build will be stable, reliable and maintainable in the future.

We recently built our first LLM feature, to show the quality of feedback given in code reviews. In 1 month, we did a literature review, consultation with academic experts, data labelling, model experimentation, a cost assessment, and finally, all the ML engineering to launch it into production. The outcome: <1% extreme misclassification and zero hallucinations. In this talk, we’ll share our approach to building LLM features – how we partnered with academia (without being delayed by their timelines), what tooling we used, and how we made the cost and money tradeoffs to keep business stakeholders happy. I’ll also speak to how we built this into our microservices architecture, including how we used tools to generate structured outputs from LLMs on top of AWS’s Bedrock API to have parseable responses from a range of models.

You'll walk away with practical strategies for leading your own teams through AI implementations, identifying ethical issues early, addressing them efficiently, and still delivering on time and on budget.
